Day Trips: Italy, Leaning Tower of Pisa

Day trips with teenagers visiting Leaning Tower of Pisa.
So, Italy. One of its most famous landmarks, the Leaning Tower of Pisa. But was it really as great as it sounds or was it leaning the other way?
Visiting Pisa
After getting past the people trying to sell us stuff on the streets, there it was. The tower itself. Now that did not disappoint. It was a miracle that it was still standing and, I can’t believe I’m writing this but, I enjoyed reading up about it too. The attempts to fix it and the times they tried to deliberately make it lean.
The surrounding area
After taking the iconic shot of ‘holding up the tower’ (in my case with one finger) there wasn’t much else to do. We agreed that we didn’t need to climb up the tower to make the most of our trip. The surrounding architecture was very impressive, but not for very long. I think to drag out a day there would have quickly become quite boring.
Conclusion, should I have gone ?
Overall, the Leaning Tower of Pisa was great. Very impressive and a moment I won’t forget. I would just say that it probably doesn’t fill a days worth of holiday and can get boring if you stay for too long.

Top Tips if your planning a visit
Parking with a Car:
We visited as part of a bigger holiday with a hire car, so the best place to park is the park and ride at the airport. From here you get the mono rail than runs every 10 minutes into the station. From the station you just need to walk about 15 minutes through the City without the hassle of traffic and parking costs.
Tickets for the Tower:
You can get them in advance or on the day but be prepared for a time slot if on the day that might not fit with your day plans.
Typical Day Plan
Parking at the airport park and ride ( multi story car park )
Mono rail to the city
Walk through the city to the Tower of Pisa about 15 minutes
