Christmas Day trips with teenagers: Sudeley Castle – Spectacle of Light 2023

Looking for lights that will leave you rocking around the Christmas tree? Festive displays are one of my favourite things about coming to the end of a year, but was Sudley lights worth the wait?

Sudeley at Christmas

I’m going to start this one off by saying I look younger than I am. At the Sudeley festive lights, teenagers a year or so older than me dress up as characters and are planted around the walk for the younger kids. Of which I obviously am not. Apart from a few awkward moments, the Sudely lights are brilliant. 

Spectacle of Light

Street food is definitely one of the highlights with plenty of burgers, pizza, hot dogs and doughnuts at a halfway point. The entire event however is outside, if you don’t include a small canopy where you can eat if there’s space. Basically, I’d wrap up warm, most of the times I’ve been the ponds have frozen over. The entire display surrounds the historic gardens with lights, projections and effects that brighten up the history of the building. Past displays I have been to see include, ‘Peter Pan’, and ‘The Wizard Of Oz’, with smoke effects and timed lights that make the evening memorable (in a good way). 

So should we have gone?

To close, I have enjoyed the Sudeley lights every single time. Obviously food being one of the highlights with the effects and lights leading you through the same place reinvented each year. Just wrap up warm (as is the trend with most Christmas lights) and waddle around with a warm drink in hand, it’s definitely worth it.

Top Tips if your planning a visit

1.Wrap up warm,

2.Wait for it to get properly dark if visiting during the day. 

3.Parking is free and well managed 

4. Gloves that you can use with a camera phone is always helpful…
